José Mourinho regrets that his former player Frank Lampard has not been given more time as manager of Chelsea.

The former midfielder was fired by 'The Blues' on Monday due to disappointing results.

"It is always sad when a colleague is fired, especially Frank. He is not just a colleague, but an important person in my coaching career," Mourinho said on Tuesday evening after Tottenham Hotspur's FA Cup match with Wycombe Wanderers ( 1-4 win) according to

Sky Sports

.

The 42-year-old Lampard, who was in his second season as manager of Chelsea, came to 648 official duels for the Londoners in his playing career.

With Mourinho as coach, he won two league titles with Chelsea (2005 and 2006) and the FA Cup in the 2006/2007 season.

According to 'The Special One', Lampard should have taken into account a possible dismissal in the future when he signed his contract in the summer of 2019.

"This is the cruelty of football, especially modern football. When you become a manager, you know that sooner or later it will happen to you too."

Tottenham Hotspur still active on four fronts

Mourinho, who despite his successes has also been sacked regularly in his career, is on the right track with Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The 'Spurs' reached the eighth finals of the FA Cup with some difficulty on Tuesday and are still active on four fronts: the league, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Europa League.

While Tottenham can expect a busy schedule, Mourinho has no intention of neglecting any of the tournaments.

"Even when we played about four matches in a week and people thought we were going to forsake the Europa League or the League Cup, we didn't", the Portuguese emphasized.

"We are ready to fight and continue. We will play in three competitions in February, as the Europa League is also about to start again. Of course it will be very tough, but we will give everything."

Tottenham Hotspur occupies fifth place in the Premier League, but has played a game less than many competitors.

Mourinho's team will meet Everton in the FA Cup on February 10, play the diptych with Wolfsberger in the Europa League later that month and await the League Cup final against Manchester City on April 25.
