The match was only four minutes old when Hedman gave the reigning Stanley Cup champions a dream start.
Hedman rushed forward in the castle to shoot, but after being disturbed in the first position, he did a pirouette and hit the puck nicely between the legs - with his back facing the goal.
The home team Columbus equalized just 17 seconds later and eventually won the match 5-2.
Hedman was also noted for an assist to Ondrej Palace's 2-3 reduction in powerplay at the end of the first period.
