Swedish David Mobärg started sluggishly in the quarterfinals but quickly switched up and positioned himself as second.

But after a steady start, the mistakes came.

First, he was pushed by a competitor and lost a position.

However, Mobärg was not far behind the duo in the lead and the chance for advancement was very much alive.

But then came the tactical miss that ruined his chances.

In an attempt to leave his third place, he tried to squeeze in between the two top riders in a turn.

It did not work at all and instead he lost both speed and balance.

- He can not go a road where there is no opening.

It's a tactical mistake.

He gets a little too hot unfortunately, says SVT Sports expert Lars Lewén.

- He has no reason to fight for places in a turn.

He should have just gotten behind the train.

Double victory for Howden

Mobär otherwise started strong in the future World Cup hill in Idre.

He had the third best time in the qualifiers and also won his round of 16 clearly.

Other Swedes, Viktor Andersson and Erik Wahlberg, went out already in the qualifiers.

The Frenchman Bastien Midol was the fastest in the qualifiers both yesterday and today but went out already in the round of 16.

Just like yesterday, Canadian Reece Howden won.

- I am super proud of these last two races, says Howden.

On the women's side, Swedish participation was lacking.

Sandra Näslund has a knee injury and Alexander Edebo is not back after the concussion she suffered before Christmas.

Sovereign Fanny Smith won, taking her 27th World Cup victory.

This means that she has the most victories in the World Cup of all female cross-country skiers of all time.
