Before the competition in Fayetteville, American Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser had the world's second and third longest shot put indoors ever.

With 22.86, he hit 20 centimeters further than compatriot Randy Barnes' record from 1989. Barnes was later convicted of doping.

The 28-year-old Crouser previously had a personal record of 22.60 and during the competition, two of Crouser's shots were longer than Barne's old world record of 22.66.

- It is a pretty good start to 2021, he says to ESPN.

Barnes still holds the prestigious world record outdoors with 23.12 which he beat in 1990, just two months before he tested positive for anabolic steroids.

Crouser, who won Olympic gold in Rio 2016, has 22.91 as the best.
