Blatter is released from "intensive care" after a week in a coma

Swiss Joseph Blatter, former president of FIFA, was discharged from the intensive care unit after being in a medically induced coma after undergoing heart surgery for a week.

His daughter, Corinne Blatter, said in an interview with CNN newspapers today that Blatter's condition is improving every day, adding "simple but continuous steps."

She added that being discharged from the intensive care unit was "a very important indicator in terms of psychological condition," but she pointed out that although doctors are happy with his development, "there is still a long way to return."

Tests revealed that Blatter, 84, had been infected with the new Corona virus last November, and he underwent heart surgery late last year, and Corinne said that the surgery was "more complicated and dangerous" than he initially thought.

Blatter has been under criminal investigation in Switzerland since 2015, and his daughter said he was not aware of the latest case brought against him by FIFA in connection with administrative corruption in relation to the FIFA Museum in Zurich.

"We keep these negative things away from him for as long as possible," she added. Blatter's lawyer has denied allegations of administrative wrongdoing.

Blatter was punished in December 2015 by the FIFA Values Committee, with a six-year suspension from practicing any activity related to football.
