Abelardo

left after having triumphed at Alavés and has returned to try to repeat past successes.

The same thing happened to

Zidane

at Real Madrid.

This Saturday, in Mendizorroza, a match is played that coincides with the centenary of the entity, founded on January 23, 1921. «It will be one of my most exciting days as a coach, the only pity is that we have to celebrate it without fans ”, explains the Asturian coach.

Do you regret not having renewed a year and a half ago? Alavés did everything possible to make me stay, but it had been a very intense year and a half and I needed to rest.

The profession of coach makes you never disconnect, I am 24 hours thinking about football, and that generates a lot of mental exhaustion.

I needed to go to Gijón to recharge my batteries, so I did not continue and I did not accept any other offer that I had. What is your biggest fear? The results, which are what command.

And they are misleading.

That worries me, that they fool me.

You can play very well and lose, or play very poorly and win.

That cannot fool you, neither negatively nor positively.

You have to keep your ideas clear and trust your team. Do you notice changes in how football is played without an audience? The only positive thing I see in this is that now the players can listen to me.

Otherwise, I don't like it.

As a spectator I like to go to the stadium, meet an hour before with friends to have a beer, the post-match, especially if you win ... That is football.

What we live now, unfortunately, is something else, but we must be grateful for being able to play as we are. Is it playing worse in Spain this season? It may be.

As the coaches are getting better, the teams are tactically better prepared than ever and the defensive aspect is increasingly important.

Also with the ball, each time you play with more passes in your own field.

Now the expression defending with the ball is taking hold, although as a child I was taught that having the ball was attacking.

All this causes many passes in their own field, without progressing, and surely it goes against the show.In a week we have seen Madrid lose in Alcoy, Eibar in Navalcarnero, Barça suffer in Cornellà, Alavés himself being thrashed in Almería ... What's going on? In football technical qualities influence, but the mind is fundamental.

Sometimes the coaches do not know how to transmit to the footballers the necessary mentality to go and play against a lower category team and it is difficult for the player.

It is not the same that Joselu has to play against a central Almería than against Varane.

I'm sure he's going to become less mental, it shouldn't be like that, but he's human.

And what I was saying, the Spanish coach right now is very prepared, also in Second B or Third.

It's not easy, they face a Madrid that have only won one of their last five games.

It's not normal, you make it worse for me ... It's a great team, even if it comes from being eliminated.

I think there are three factors that, on a mental level, play against us: Atlético's victory that makes them reach the limit to continue fighting for the League;

the elimination in Alcoy that has hurt them;

and that Alavés beat them in Madrid.

All of this will have a positive influence on them.

We have to endorse the level of play that we show, despite the defeat, against Sevilla and bear in mind that this team won in Valdebebas. Alavés has been setting permanence as a goal for five years.

How could I take the leap to the next level? Most of the teams that have managed to establish themselves have been based on working the quarry.

The clear example is the Royal Society, which took people out of the quarry and sold Griezmann and Illarra for very large amounts.

That's what makes you level up and reinforce yourself with better players to fight for other goals.

If you don't get those transfers, it's not easy.

Alavés is doing well, there are Borja Sainz, Javi López, Martín, Keller ... What is being done in this club has impressive merit, I hope we are in the First Division for a sixth year and continue to grow little by little.
