Sarah Thomas was hired in 2015 as the NFL's first female referee and six years later she is given the prestigious assignment to judge in the big NFL final Super Bowl.

Thomas will be part of referee Carl Cheffer's team and will then be the first woman ever to judge the Super Bowl.

"Her achievements and commitment have made her deserving of this.

Congratulations to Sarah on this well-deserved honor, "wrote NFL President Troy Vincent in a statement.

For Cheffers, this will be his second Super Bowl in five years.

Other judges in the NFL Finals, which take place Feb. 7 in Florida, are Fred Bryan, Rusty Baynes, Eugene Hall and Dino Paganelli.
