FC Volendam coach Wim Jonk can hardly believe that his team failed to reach the quarter-finals of the TOTO KNVB Cup on Tuesday evening at the expense of PSV.

The club from the Kitchen Champion Division lost 0-2 to the Eindhoven team despite a very strong first half.

"We are very disappointed, because we should have led 4-1 at half time", Jonk noted after the game in the Kras Stadium against

"Then we would have just won this game. We were supreme in the first half at least."

PSV could be grateful to goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall that it was still 0-0 at half time.

The home team fired six shots at goal in the first half, but Boy Deul and Nick Doodeman, among others, did not get the ball past the tall German.

"The boys were terribly disappointed in the break, because they got something like seven imposed chances and they didn't make them. We didn't reward ourselves for the good football that we showed. That's a shame."

Jonk does not understand the lack of VAR

After the break, PSV showed a better side, helped by the quick opening goal by Noni Madueke.

Denzel Dumfries closed the game in the 79th minute by using a penalty after he himself was brought down in the penalty area.

"I heard that it wasn't actually a penalty, so it's annoying that there was no VAR. I don't understand that either", said Jonk, who even a while after the final whistle could not believe that his team had not won against PSV. .

"On the basis of the whole match, I think it should have ended in 4-2. Everyone could see that, we are not blind, are we? I told the boys that they can be proud. If we continue to provide this energy, we can beat everyone. "

FC Volendam does not have long to think about the cup breakdown, because Jonk's team will play the important home game against De Graafschap in the league on Sunday.

PSV awaits a home game with RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie on Saturday.
