The former Al Jazeera player and the national team, Youssef Abdel Aziz, suffered a terrible traffic accident in the capital Abu Dhabi, which resulted in the smashing of his car, whose upper half was split, but God has saved him and is currently recovering.

Youssef Abdel Aziz said during a phone call with Emirates Today, that while he was walking in front of Shakhbout Hospital in the capital, Abu Dhabi, he was surprised by a car trying to turn around and avoided, only to find himself colliding with a giant truck whose driver was trying to reverse.

He added, "The police report stated that the truck driver was the one who caused the accident as he was trying to reverse, as he was located behind the yellow line area, which is forbidden to drive cars."

He explained, "I did not feel what happened after the event, as I was surprised that I was in intensive care at Shakhbout Hospital, in which I stayed for one day before going out on Monday afternoon to a regular room to be placed under medical observation."

Youssef Abdel Aziz added, "The medical reports indicated that there were bruises in separate places in all areas of the body and within a few days I would be discharged from the hospital."

The former Al-Jazeera player thanked all officials, his friends, football fans and the medical staff treating him for the attention he had received since he had been in the accident.

The former player Youssef Abdel Aziz was one of the prominent names in the late nineties and even 2007 with Al-Jazira club and the national team, as he scored with pride in Abu Dhabi 18 goals, and was called "Beckham" at the time, due to the similarity between them in form and manner of play.

And after he ended his career with Al-Jazeera, he played for Al-Nasr and Al-Wasl for not long periods, and was forced to retire due to injury.

Abdel Aziz and Al-Abyad played 38 international matches without interruption, and an injury to the cruciate ligament prevented him from participating in the 2007 Gulf Cup just four days before the start of this event, which was held in Abu Dhabi.
