Jacob Markström signed a six-year contract with the Calgary Flames for this season, worth about 53 million a year.

This after he did not agree with the Vancouver Canucks on an extension of the contract, and where Vancouver instead chose to bet on the former Stanley Cup champion in Washington and Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby.

Last night, Markström started the installment, when he stopped 32 shots against the Canucks.

It was Markström's sixth zero in his NHL career, which began once in the Florida Panthers' 2010-11 season.

Three Swedish assists

In the match, the Flames scored one goal in each period, where three other Swedish players were involved in goal production.

Elias Lindholm, Mikael Backlund and Rasmus Andersson each had assists in the match.

In Vancouver, new Swedish star Nils Höglander was close to breaking Markström's zero at the end of the third period, but Markström saved his finish in the castle with barely a minute left of the match.

Swedish defender Alaexander Edler was forced to break the match, with barely ten minutes left due to an injury, and did not return to play.

It is unclear how serious the injury is.
