Renault is no longer Renault: Alpine is born.
The head of the Renault Group,
Luca de Meo
, presented this Thursday the company's plan until 2025 and, at that event, offered some details about the manufacturer's new sports car brand and about the car that
Fernando Alonso
will drive
next year in his return to the Formula 1 World Championship.
The car, as shown, will be black and will feature the blue, red and white of the French flag, although according to the company the design presented "is not yet final."
A521 will be the name of the car in homage to the Alpine A500 of 1975, considered the first Formula 1 of Renault - despite the fact that it did not compete.
"Some structural graphic elements will continue in the car's livery, while others will change. The Alpine name in large with a tricolor graphics system is the first clear case of symbol of the brand's identity in motorsports," he said. Alpine Design Director
Anthony Villain
added: "The blue, white and red refer to the colors of the French and British flags, which are very important to us."
"2021 will be a year of transition, in 2022 we hope to fight for the podiums," said
Laurent Rossi
, new boss of Alpine replacing
Cyril Abideboul
.
Alonso and his partner,
Esteban Ocon
, were not present at the event, and presumably they will attend the February event in which, according to Renault, the final design of the Alpine A521 will be known.
In the next tests in March that will take place at the Bahrain circuit - this time they will not be held in Montmeló, the Spanish driver will get on the new car for the first time to show off the new colors.
Alpine's true potential can then be assessed in the Formula 1 season to come.
