3 candidates in the final round of the Barcelona elections

Barcelona announced today that Juan Laporta, Victor Font and Tony Frica have been able to officially obtain the minimum number of signatures to accept their candidacy for the presidential elections, amounting to 2257 signatures necessary from affiliates of the club.

The Catalan club said in a statement, "Once the verification of the signatures is completed, the committee overseeing the elections announced that Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Merica are official candidates for the presidency of FC Barcelona, as stipulated in Article 48.5 of the club's articles of association."

The fourth candidate, Emily Russo, who has the least number of signatures (2510), withdrew from the election race during a video clip in which he explained that his team rejected the idea of an alliance with Frica, and confirmed that "our offer was the best athletically and economically."

Laporta, the former president of the club (2003-2010) and the leading candidate to win these elections, submitted 10,272 signatures, but the committee overseeing the elections approved 9625 signatures.

Laporta significantly outperformed its competitors, as Fonta submitted 4,731 signatures ahead of 4,431, and Frica submitted 2,822 signatures, of which only 2,634 were approved.

Now that the three official candidates are known, the official election campaign will start tomorrow, and will continue until the elections scheduled for this 24th.

According to the local press, the elections may be postponed due to the increase in the number of people infected with the "Covid-19" virus and the extension of restrictions in Catalonia.

On Friday, club officials will meet with Catalan authorities to decide whether to continue or postpone the elections.
