PSV will start the home game against AZ on Wednesday without Cody Gakpo.

The 21-year-old attacker has not recovered in time from an ankle injury and is replaced by Ryan Thomas.

Albert Gudmundsson takes the place of Tijjani Reijnders at AZ.

PSV trainer Roger Schmidt also holds on to the team that drew 2-2 against Ajax in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday.

Mario Götze is struggling with a muscle injury and will be out for at least two more weeks.

Gakpo's playing in the top match against AZ was uncertain after his ankle doubled in Amsterdam on Sunday.

Despite that injury, Schmidt was hopeful that Gakpo would be there on Wednesday, but the game against AZ is still too early.

PSV can at least take over Ajax's lead for one day.

The club from the capital will visit FC Twente on Thursday.

After six matches again playing minutes for Gudmundsson

AZ coach Pascal Jansen also largely sticks to the team that came into action last weekend.

Gudmundsson for Reijnders is the only change compared to the match at PEC Zwolle (1-1).

Presumably the Icelander starts on the wing, so that Calvin Stengs can play as the central midfielder.

The 23-year-old Gudmundsson, who played at PSV between 2015 and 2018, had to settle for a spare role in recent matches.

The attacker will make playing minutes again on Wednesday after six games.

Last season AZ won no less than 0-4 in Eindhoven.

Compared to that game, the Alkmaarders start with eight of the same players (Bizot, Sugawara, Hatzidiakos, Wijndal, Midtsjø, Koopmeiners; Stengs and Boadu).

At PSV, much more has changed since then and there are only three of the same basic players (Dumfries, Rosario and Thomas) compared to the previous meeting.

The match between number three PSV and number five AZ starts on Wednesday at 6.45 p.m. and is led by referee Serdar Gözübüyük.
