The cyclist of the Al-Ahly youth team, Slovenian Greg Paul, won first place in the "Elite" race yesterday, within the competitions of the fifth edition of the Ladder Cycling Championship, organized by the office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Procurement and Finance.

Yusef Mirza, the UAE champion, and a member of the (WASH) team, finished the runners-up, while his colleague Khaled Mayouf came third.

As for the teams, "Wash" came first, then Shabab Al-Ahly, and Al-Wathba third.

And after the end of the competitions, the Chief Executive of the Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Procurement and Finance, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Championship, Amir bin Jumah Al Falasi, crowned the winners of the races: the elite for men, Emirati amateurs, desert bikes and the Emirati women's amateur race, in the presence Organizing Committee members: Majid Al Bastaki, Rami Al Nabulsi, and Muhammad Al Mousa.

The organizing committee also honored the event’s supporters, namely: Dubai Police, Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, Dubai Sports Channel, Emirates Cycling Federation, Bahrain Cycling Federation and Kuwait Cycling Club.

Al Falasi said, in a press statement: "The championship has achieved several goals, most notably the contribution to spreading the practice of cycling in society and raising the level of our athletes from among the nation and residents, as well as qualified young national cadres working in all organizational aspects."

He added: “We are proud that the workers in all the championship committees are from the people of the country, who have great experience, which qualified them to organize an event worthy of the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.”

On his part, Greg Paul, said in a press statement: “I was confident of winning despite the strong competition from other experienced riders, but what I would like to emphasize is that we have made good preparations, faced difficult situations with confidence and determination, and controlled the course of the race as required, especially in The last meters, which helped me to take the right place to start from, and grab the lead.

The women's elite race in February

The Peace Championship program will be completed with the establishment of the women's elite race next February, an event that is considered experimental in this version, in light of the successes achieved by the Emirati amateur race.

The current season witnessed the establishment of the Emirati amateur race and the desert race, in addition to several qualifying stations, to be the most prominent event at the level of cycling in the country and the region.

4 cars and 15 paramedics to secure the elite race

The Executive Director of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Khalifa bin Drai, confirmed that the Elite race has been secured with four ambulances, in addition to the presence of 15 paramedics, to cope with any injuries that may arise.

And he continued, in a press statement: Ambulances were distributed throughout the race, for rapid intervention in the event of any accident on the road, in addition to the presence of an integrated clinic in Al-Sabaq Village, and a medical team to intervene when there are any cases that may need further treatment.

"Wash" outperformed at the level of the teams, while Shabab Al-Ahly came second, and Al Wathba came third.
