The Freestyle WC was to be decided in China in February but was canceled already at the beginning of December last year due to the corona pandemic.

The first indications were that the World Cup would be completely canceled, but then came information that Canada and Calgary would take over the world championship.

But that proposal does not include ski and snowboard cross.

- That Sweden would be relevant for the World Cup in skicross came up when we discussed various possible compensation with FIS, the international ski federation, after China was canceled.

But it is only now that the question and the situation has become sharp, says Eliasson Winter.

The economy is crucial

Sweden can thus for the first time ever be the organizer of a world championship in a freestyle discipline.

But for it to become a reality, around five million kronor is required to cover all costs.

- Right now it is probably 50/50 that we succeed.

We have guarantees of just over a million at present, but as I said, four more are needed for us to be able to give our skiers the chance to become world champions at home.

Ready next week

Quick decisions apply.

Already in the middle of this week, it will be decided whether Sweden can and can host the World Cup.

- Idre Fjäll is both ready and well equipped so we at the ski association are convinced that it can be a really good championship but everything must be in port by Tuesday or Wednesday next week, says Eliasson Winter.
