800 meters is considered a medium-distance run with high demands on oxygen uptake and the training is focused on tough cardio training.

But to reach the top world elite, it is also important to be fast.

- Pure sprint training is not too common for 800-meter runners to do, but for me it is important to work with running at the fast speeds I am up to during a competition race, says Andreas Kramer.

The lowering of their own Swedish record by just over half a second to 1.44.47 was enough for a seventh place on this year's world best list.

And Andreas is in at least as good a condition as the runners before him, but he is not as fast.

- If Andreas is to take the next step towards the top, it is necessary for him to be faster.

There he is not at the same level and therefore we work regularly with speed, says head coach Per Skoog.

"A higher step frequency"

At least once a week, Andreas Kramer leaves the intervals and cardio training to instead train sprint running with Anders Palmqvist, one of the country's most deserving sprint coaches.

- Many people may think that you increase the speed by taking a longer step and running as fast as you can, but running does not work that way.

It is with the help of fast footings and a higher step frequency that I can run faster without getting tired, says Andreas Kramer.
