Fortuna Sittard booked a big win on Sunday against sc Heerenveen, which is out of shape.

The Frisians lost 1-3 with debutant Siem de Jong in the team.

At VVV-Venlo-Willem II (2-1) striker Giannis Giakoumakis was again worth gold on behalf of the home team.

In the absence of trainer Johnny Jansen - he is infected with the corona virus - Heerenveen did little of it against Fortuna.

Assistant coach Hennie Spijkerman saw a lot of things go wrong with his team, which resulted in a 0-3 halftime score.

After twenty minutes Ben Rienstra signed against his old club with a slider for the 0-1, four minutes later George Cox punished apatically defending Heerenveen and in the 37th minute Zian Flemming scored beautifully.

The Frisian defense also looked weak with that hit.

Former Ajax player De Jong was replaced after an hour in his first Eredivisie game in almost a year.

Heerenveen still tried in the second half, but did not get further than an honorary goal from Henk Veerman.

Lisandro Semedo hit the post on behalf of Fortuna.

With the defeat, number eight Heerenveen continues the series with which it entered the winter break.

The club went down for the third time in a row and has now been waiting eight games for a win.

That is not yet a club record: in 1995 it was not won eleven times in a row.

Fortuna is doing a lot better and won for the fourth time in five duels.

The team of trainer Sjors Ultee finds its way up after a bad start and is now twelfth.

The game between sc Heerenveen and Fortuna Sittard was already decided before the break.

Giakoumakis Eredivisie top scorer

In Venlo, Willem II seemed to be on his way to the first victory in seven games for a long time thanks to an early goal from Jan-Arie van der Heijden, who got the ball in front of his feet on a free kick and hit hard.

With the final phase in sight, striker Giakoumakis equalized from a penalty kick and it became even better for VVV.

In extra time, it was again the Greek who scored and thus gave his team the third victory of the season.

The 26-year-old Giakoumakis impresses in his first season as a VVV player.

He already made his eleventh and twelfth goal of the season and replaced Danilo from FC Twente as Eredivisie top scorer.

Thanks to the third victory of the season, VVV is leaving the relegation places in the Eredivisie.

Adrie Koster's Willem II performs far below expectations and is only seventeenth.

A goal by Jan-Arie van der Heijden turned out not to be enough for Willem II.
