It is the prosecutor in the so-called Aderlass case who requested that Schmidt be given a tangible prison sentence.
Kai Gräber also wants Schmidt to be suspended from the medical profession for five years.
The verdict in the case in Munich will be announced next Friday.
The scandal erupted during the World Ski Championships in Seefeld 2019 when the Austrian skier Max Hauke was caught with a syringe in his arm.
However, the investigation was launched earlier, after a documentary by German ARD and statements by Hauke's teammate Johannes Dürr who admitted that he had been doped.
