The sports mirror was first broadcast on January 6, 1961, with a cartoon vignette and Sven "Plex" Pettersson as host.

The premiere program included cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, bandy and ice hockey.

When the program celebrated 50 years, "Plex" Pettersson was back in the studio in an anniversary program with, among others, Arne Hegerfors, Ann-Britt Ryd Pettersson, Göran Zachrisson, Bosse Hansson and Janne Lorentzon.

Today, it is Mats Nyström who has carried on the tradition for many years, together with presenters such as Marie Lehmann, Jane Björck and Cecilia Ingman.

- Sportspegeln is a time marker for Swedish television.

Not many programs have so many years on their necks.

It feels honoring to be a part of it, says Mats.

- It always feels special to make a "mirror".

It's the end of the week and there's a steady crowd watching.

The sports mirror is one of the assignments that has meant the most to me during the years at SVT Sport.

Mats Nyström is aware of his own work shifts and states that he, as the planned host on February 26, will reach a personal milestone:

- If I can be healthy, I will then do my 365th night with Sportspegeln.

Then I have spent a whole year of my life in the company of the mirror.

Crazy.

The first contribution to a Sportspegel was made by Mats Nyström as early as January 6, 1991, as a newly hired reporter with a feature on league handball.

- With presenters like Arne and Bosse and Katarina Hultling, it was an unattainable dream that I myself would sit in the studio.

I did not even touch the thought, he remembers.

The obvious question - what is the best memory, from the mirror studio?

- There are so many, but a strong memory was during the Stockholm Open in 2000. Ilie Nastase held a project with future stars and came to the studio with great talent, he said.

It was a 19-year-old Roger Federer.

So there my childhood and the future met, to my questions.

Huge, I think.

- But there are many times that I went home after a broadcast and thought that "that was a damn good report" we showed.

The reports that attract those not always interested in sports have always been an important part of Sportspegeln.

For 60 years, that is.
