United shock-started the League Cup semi-final by scoring in the third minute through Marcus Rashford.

But, unfortunately for United, it was ruled out for offside.

Two minutes later, it was City's turn to get a goal ruled out for offside.

This time it was Ilkay Gundogan who did it.

After chances in both directions, including a post shot by City's Keivn De Bruyne, Phil Foden scored in City tonight's third offside goal.

After another couple of penalty situations, the referee blew off for a goalless first half.

A half where Manchester City had a massive ball possession, but otherwise even in goal chances.

Stone's lead shooter

It would eventually be a case that was not ruled out.

And it was Manchester City's John Stones who took care of a free kick return in the best way and made it 1-0 in the 51st minute.

United tried to get a draw but created nothing really dangerous.

Instead, it was City's Fernandinho who extended the lead to 2-0 after receiving a clearance on a corner straight towards him and banging the ball in from distance.
