On Tuesday, the unexpected news came that the reigning Swedish champions Gothenburg FC will close down its elite operations.

What happens to the players is unclear, but there has been speculation that another club could take over the business.

Earlier today, SVT Sport revealed that classic Örgryte can take over Gothenburg's place and that Öis has called for an extra board meeting tonight to discuss a possible takeover of the Damallsvenska champion team.

- I think it is my duty to ask the question to our board and see what opportunities there are, said Öi's chairman Joacim Nordh to SVT Sport.

But there will be no takeover, writes Göteborgs-Posten.

"At present, there is unfortunately nothing we can contribute to ensure that Gothenburg as a city has a representative who plays Allsvenskan football in Gothenburg in 2021," Öis writes on its website.
