The Swedish Football Association's general secretary Håkan Sjöstrand was taken to bed over Gothenburg FC's decision to close down the elite operations with immediate effect.

- First of all, it is very boring when we look at the club's achievements, and at the same time very surprising.

We have not received any formal message from the association yet, and we need to wait to be able to handle the competition technical aspects, says Håkan Sjöstrand.

Sjöstrand confirms that it is Morön from Västerbotten who will receive the offer to replace Gothenburg in the damallsvenskan.

- If a team pulls out, then the third-placed team in the elite and in this case Morön will be offered that place, says Håkan Sjöstrand.

"Taken to bed"

How big a blow is this for Swedish elite football?

- We were all taken to bed by this message.

And there are no indications that I have received that this would happen.

But at the same time, each association must manage its conditions and limitations, says Håkan Sjöstrand.

In Morön, the chairman Per-Gunnar Stenvall is positive that the club can take over Gothenburg's place.

- We are no stranger to taking over the Allsvenskan place.

As a club, we always strive upwards and if we are offered the Allsvenskan place, Morön wants the place in the Damallsvenskan, says Stenvall

- Such a late decision from Gothenburg requires more work and planning.

It also remains to be seen if Skellefteå as a city wants a damallsvensk Swedish team.

But if we are offered the place, Morön wants to become a team in the Damallsvenskan.
