Karl Geiger has won the first match of the Four Hills Tour.

The 27-year-old German jumped on his favorite ski jump in Oberstdorf to a score of 291.1 points.

Geiger jumped 127 and 136.5 meters in the south of Germany.

He left the Pole Kamil Stoch (288.3) and the Norwegian Marius Lindvik (281.2) behind.

Stoch and the other Polish participants were only told on Tuesday that they could still participate.

The Polish team seemed to skip the opening game of the Four Hills Tour on Monday, because one of the ski jumpers (Klemens Muranka) had tested positive for the corona virus.

Muranka had been in direct contact with the rest of the team and so all his countrymen were also excluded from participation.

A second test at Muranka, however, turned out negative on Monday, with the entire team getting the green light on Tuesday.

The next match in the Four Hills Tour is traditionally on New Year's Day in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, after which Innsbruck (January 3) and Bischofshofen (January 6) will also be featured.

The previous edition of the Four Hills Tour was won by Dawid Kubacki, who could call himself the third Pole to be the best in the prestigious competition.
