Yannick Bestaven continues to lead the Vendée Globe in complicated weather conditions on Monday by incessant rain, still ahead of his pursuers Charlie Dalin and Thomas Rettant.

In the wake of the leading man and under a downpour, the two French skippers are faithful to the position: Charlie Dalin (Apivia) still trails 111.7 miles (207 km) from Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq IV) .

Cape Horn in sight for January 2

In third position, Thomas Rettant (LinkedOut) seems to have recovered from the efforts made this weekend to make up for the delay conceded during a tumble which had seen him fall to tenth place.

He is now sailing 279 miles (517 km) behind the leader.

The leading trio are heading towards Cape Horn, at the southern tip of the American continent, which they should cross on January 2 if their advance continues at the same pace.

The daily life of the navigators is for the moment complicated by the freezing cold to which they are subjected, even as they skirt the Antarctic exclusion zone in heavy rain, making humidity omnipresent on board.

Seven pursuers in just over 100 km

But the race for the final victory is not limited to these three men, a few days before entering the South Atlantic: a pack of pursuers is holding up the shock, extremely tight, with seven skippers in less than 70 miles (113 km).

Damien Seguin (Groupe Apicil) clings to the foot of the podium, while being wary of the German Isabelle Joschke, 36 miles (58 km) behind him, who gradually grabs places to find himself fifth.

Jean Le Cam, third Saturday, has demoted to sixth place, but remains in ambush from the top of his 61 years, aboard his boat without foils, these side appendages that allow you to rise above the water to pick up speed.
