- It is obviously very fun.

This is one of the finest and most honorable coaching assignments you can have in Sweden.

As I have a strong connection and strong feelings for the city, it feels fantastic to be back after 19 years of excursion, says Lennartsson to HIF's website.

As an assistant, he gets the former HIF player Mattias Lindström.

The 55-year-old was presented at a press conference after Helsingborgs Dagblad earlier this week provided information about the change in the management staff.

Takes over after Olof Mellberg

The 55-year-old takes over from Olof Mellberg, who just over three weeks ago announced that he is leaving Helsingborg after being relegated from the Allsvenskan to the Superettan.

Lennartsson, who was an assistant coach at HIF in the early 2000s, has not coached a Swedish team in 3.5 years when he was fired from IFK Gothenburg.

Just over a year ago, he left his last head coach job when he was fired from Norwegian Lilleström.

Lennartsson was previously the national team captain for Sweden's U21 national team (2005–2010) and his biggest success to date as head coach is the Swedish Championship gold with Elfsborg 2012.
