Already on the way to the quarter-finals, Brentford, fourth in the table in English football's second division, had lowered three other Premier League teams.

On Tuesday, Newcastle got to feel what West Bromwich, Southampton and Fulham have already had to experience.

At a rainy Brentford Community Stadium in west London, it was goalless for just over an hour.

Brentford missed Pontus Jansson, who is injured, but started with Saman Ghoddos, who almost broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when he punched the crossbar.

The winning goal came instead in the 66th minute.

The home side's Sergi Canós came close to extending the lead 19 minutes into the game. His shot came in from the right hand side but Josh Dasilva managed to save it with an unbelievable reaction stop.

The 22-year-old masterfully put his foot down and rolled in 1-0.

That was what it took to send Brentford to the club's first major cup final.

In Tuesday's second quarter final, later in the evening, a crisis-ridden Arsenal takes on the reigning champions Manchester City.
