FC Barcelona has recovered from the draw against Valencia (2-2) in La Liga on Tuesday.

The team of coach Ronald Koeman won, partly thanks to a record goal from Lionel Messi, 0-3 on a visit to Real Valladolid.

Earlier in the evening, Atlético Madrid strengthened the lead.

FC Barcelona took the lead at Real Valladolid after just over twenty minutes.

Clément Lenglet headed home from a measured cross from Messi.

Fifteen minutes later, Martin Braithwaite took care of the 0-2 by tapping a hard cross from Sergiño Dest from the right.

It was the former Ajax player's first assist for the Catalans.

Halfway through the second half, Messi scored his 644th goal in the service of Barcelona from a nice attack.

With that, the Argentinian improved the record number of goals for one club of Pelé.

The now eighty-year-old Brazilian scored in 1974 for the 643rd and last time for Santos.

Last weekend Messi already equaled Pelé's record.

Messi also hit the post in injury time.

Frenkie de Jong played at FC Barcelona up to twenty minutes before the end.

Thanks to the victory, Koeman's team remains number five in the rankings.
