Guardiola does not expect to conclude new deals in January

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has said that he does not expect his rival team in the English Premier League to strike any new deals during the next winter transfer period in January 2021 despite his offensive problems due to the financial impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on his club.

Striker Sergio Aguero, City's all-time top scorer, did not score in the Premier League this season, with his participation in decline due to injury, while Gabriel Jesus scored only two goals.

City has scored 19 goals in 13 Premier League matches so far, a little more than half the number of goals scored during the same period last season (37 goals).

In response to a question about the possibility of the team moving to strengthen its offensive options next month, Guardiola said, "No. I do not think so because of the prevailing economic conditions in the world at the present time."

The veteran Spanish coach added, "All clubs are suffering. Our situation is no exception."

Despite the offensive problems, City’s defense is performing well.

In City's 1-0 victory over Southampton last Saturday, Guardiola's team kept their nets clean for the sixth time in the league after they conceded 12 goals at the championship level this season, the lowest score among the 20 teams so far.

City will meet Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Tuesday.
