Several French media report on the serious accident that followed Rennes' 3-0 victory away against Lorient yesterday.

The daily newspaper L'Équipe writes that the attendant was "crushed" under the falling headlight about ten minutes after the final signal.

He immediately screamed in pain as colleagues rushed there to help.

Medical personnel were on site and intervened quickly, but the life of the floor nurse could not be saved and he later died at the Lorient hospital.

"One of FC Lorient's gardeners died tonight after an accident on the pitch after today's match.

All our thoughts go to his family.

FC Lorient is in mourning ", writes the Twitter account FC Lorient English.

"It's a huge sadness," wrote team defender Julien Laporte.

Other players in the French league are also tweeting about the accident.

"So sad.

All thoughts are with this man's family.

My heart is with you, Lorient ", writes for example Valentin Rongier, midfielder in Marseille.

French police have launched an investigation to find out how the accident could have happened.
