He specializes in ground fighting and won a silver medal in the men's 73 kg class at the 2012 London Olympics and a gold medal in 2011 and 2014 at the World Championships.

The company to which he belongs announced that Nakaya will retire from active duty and will become the coach of the judo club to which he belongs.

Nakaya said, "At the London Olympics, the color of the medals was regrettable, but it was because I experienced the defeat on the big stage of the Olympics that I was able to grow mentally and return to the number one in the world in 2014. It was a unique experience. In the future, I would like to become a loving leader like the teachers who have grown me so that I can give back to the judo world. "
