The Swedish, Finnish and Russian teams would fly together from Helsinki Airport to Edmonton on Sunday.

But when it became clear that the players would share flights with all the ice hockey equipment inside the cabin, all the nations reacted strongly.

After talks with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), it was changed - and all equipment will now be flown in a separate plane, a so-called cargo flight.

The three major hockey nations are big opponents on the ice - but in this decision, everyone completely agreed.

- We completely agreed.

And we decided that we would not fly if there was any risk on the plane.

It is against the aviation law, and we do not intend to agree to that, says Finland's general manager Kimmo Oikarinen to SVT Sport.

"Must be safe"

Together, they made their own statement to the International Federation.

- Finland, Russia and Sweden are three great nations, I am glad that we are strong together.

The safety of the players always comes first, he continues.

The Swedish team doctor Ryan Allenby testifies to the small turbulence at Helsinki airport.

- There are over 200 people on the same flight, and then it must be safe.

It will be a flight, but we have a requirement on the IIHF that we have a good situation so everyone can go.

All safety issues must be clear first, says Ryan Allenby to SVT Sport.

When the three nations will take on Canada is a bit unclear at the time of writing.

- We have no idea yet.

We have made a requirement to the IIHF to fix a cargo flight for our ice hockey equipment, says Ryan Allenby.
