Last weekend, marathon runner Carolina Wikström passed the Olympic qualifying limit by a margin of three minutes with a time of 2.26.42.

A crush of her former pers by seven minutes.

Today it was time for the next great performance of a Swede in a marathon.

In the Italian championships in Reggio Emilia, Charlotta Fougberg broke with 2.28.42, a new personal record.

It is also below the Olympic qualifying limit and the third fastest time in Sweden through the ages after Wikström's recent time and Isabellah Andersson, who ran 2.23.41 in 2011.
