A ruling raises controversy in the Champions League with racist statements

UEFA announced today the appointment of Dutch referee Danny Makeley to lead the evening match in the final round of the group stage of the European Champions League between Paris Saint-Germain and its guest Basaksehir, after the fourth referee stopped her on Tuesday as a result of the racist insult of the guest coach.

The match will resume from where it left off in the 14th minute with the change of the refereeing staff, after the uproar caused by the fourth Romanian referee Sebastian Koltisco as a result of directing a racist phrase to Cameroonian Pierre Weibo, assistant coach of the Turkish team.

The match of the last sixth round of Group D was stopped in the 14th minute after the Turkish players left the pitch.

The result indicated a goalless draw between the two teams when members of the coaching staff began to say "Negro said," referring to the fourth referee who directed his speech to Weibo.

And the match referee, Oviedo Hattegan, expelled Weibo, which angered the visitors of the team who left the stadium and did not return to him after they insisted on the need to exclude Coltsico, a position shared with them by Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, saying, "I cannot play with such a referee," referring to him. To the main referee Hattigan, not just the fourth referee.

The Confederacy agreed to the desire of both parties, and announced that it had appointed Makeley, the 37-year-old who had so far led 26 Champions League matches, including the German match between Saint-Germain and Leipzig (1-0) on the 24th of last month.

The two assistant referees will assist Makeley, his compatriot Mario Dix and the Polish Marcin Bunyik, while the latter’s citizen, Bartosz Frankovsky, will be the fourth referee.

The match will be marginal in terms of qualifying for the final price, as Saint-Germain secured its card with Leipzig thanks to the latter's 3-2 victory at home to Manchester United of England on Tuesday evening.

Saint-Germain will lead the standings by two direct confrontations with Leipzig (they lost 1-2 away and won 1-0 in return), if they beat Basaksehir, who was originally outside the qualifying accounts in last place with three points.
