Florian Grillitsch blew hard once.

Suddenly a striker - with a very strong performance, the Austrian led TSG Hoffenheim to their first league win in over two months.

The 25-year-old contributed two goals in the earned 3: 1 (1: 1) against FC Augsburg on Monday evening, his first in the Bundesliga for over two and a half years.

After the double from the offensive player (17th minute / 46th) Ihlas Bebou (50th) scored the final score.

Daniel Caligiuri (31st) had meanwhile equalized.

Hoffenheim slipped past Augsburg into tenth place in the table and reduced the gap to the European Cup places to four points.

"We are very relieved, we played a very, very good game," said Sebastian Rudy at the DAZN streaming service.

"I think the three points are more than deserved today." Augsburg's Florian Niederlechner paid tribute: "Hoffenheim missed some opportunities."

The hosts, who had qualified ahead of time for the knockout round of the Europa League on Thursday, already determined the initial phase.

The Kraichgauer put the guests under pressure, in particular through vice world champion Andrej Kramaric, who had returned to the starting line-up.

It took the FCA a good half an hour to arrive at the game.

TSG coach Sebastian Hoeneß had demanded more stability shortly before kick-off given the series without a win in the league.

And he saw a great move early on.

The ball came to Christoph Baumgartner on the left side at high speed from his own half.

The Austrian chipped heavily on Grillitsch, who had no headache.

Both Hoeneß and Kramaric had rotated back into the team after the European Cup game.

The FCA only slowly approached the Hoffenheim penalty area.

A free kick by Caligiuri was clearly over the goal (12th).

The Bavarian Swabians had to do without attacking player André Hahn, who had tested positive for the corona virus.

Coach Heiko Herrlich had changed his starting eleven to a total of four positions.

After the residue, the guests swayed worryingly.

Goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz had to defuse the direct acceptance by Sebastian Rudy (22nd) and Baumgartner (25th).

"Come on Baumi, come on," Hoeness called from the sidelines.

But then the equalizer fell out of nowhere: Caligiuri headed into the goal after a good cross from Michael Gregoritsch.

The game became a little more open.

Both goalkeepers had to save before the break: Gikiewicz against Kramaric (38th), TSG keeper Oliver Baumann against Niederlechner (44th).

Just 27 seconds after the restart, the Hoffenheim team cheered again: Grillitsch tricked FCA captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw in the penalty area and carefully pushed in with his left.

Bebou, who had already scored in Mainz the previous week (1: 1), followed suit after a nice solo - again the Augsburg defense looked sedate.

Subsequently, Hoffenheim dominated as far as possible, the FCA overall too rarely came in front of the TSG goal.
