Manchester United only managed to deal with West Ham United on Saturday after Donny van de Beek had been replaced: 1-3.
City rivals Manchester City booked a simple 2-0 home win over Fulham in the Premier League.
Van de Beek played inconspicuously as an attacking midfielder and, like Edinson Cavani, was replaced at United at half-time.
West Ham was leading 1-0 at that time thanks to a hit by the Czech Tomas Soucek.
Bernardo Silva was the replacement for the Orange-international and soon gave the assist to Paul Pogba, who scored with a tip of more than 25.
United then took a 1-3 lead via Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
The victory puts United in fourth place in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Sterling earns a penalty for the twentieth time
It took Manchester City just 26 minutes to take a 2-0 lead against Fulham.
First Raheem Sterling pushed the ball into the far corner after a pass from Kevin De Bruyne and later the Belgian midfielder used a penalty after the English attacker was knocked out.
It was already the twentieth time that Sterling has decorated a penalty in the Premier League, with which he is the record holder.
Manager Pep Guardiola's team recorded the fifth victory in ten league games.
The gap on leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool is three points.
Fulham, which had to do without the injured Kenny Tete and Terence Kongolo, is in seventeenth place just above the relegation line.
The Londoners have only one point more than Burnley.

Top scorer Calvert-Lewin makes eleventh goal of the season
The gap with Burnley became smaller because the team drew 1-1 against Everton with Erik Pieters on the bench in-house.
Robbie Brady gave the relegation candidate the lead in the third minute.
Just before half time, Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the tying run.
It was already the eleventh league goal for the 23-year-old striker, who is the top scorer in the Premier League.
Everton remains subtopper after the draw.
