Borussia Dortmund has suffered a major setback.

The Germans have to do for the rest of this calendar year without star player Erling Braut Haaland, who has suffered a hamstring injury.

Haaland suffered the injury on Tuesday during the final training for Wednesday's home game against Lazio in the group stage of the Champions League.

Further examination in the hospital revealed a tear in the upper leg.

The twenty-year-old Norwegian striker therefore misses the Dortmund duels in December.

The team of trainer Lucien Favre will play twice in the Champions League this month, four times in the Bundesliga and once in the DFP Pokal.

Haaland is back on track this season.

He scored fourteen times in seventeen games.

Since joining Red Bull Salzburg for 20 million euros in January, he has scored 33 goals in 32 games in total.

Dortmund can qualify for the knockout phase of the Champions League on Wednesday.

'Der Borussen' may even take a ticket in the event of a defeat, but that depends on the result at Club Brugge-FC Zenit.

In the Bundesliga, Dortmund fell behind leader Bayern Munich last weekend with a surprising defeat against 1. FC Köln (1-2).

The backlog is four points.

An away match against Eintracht Frankfurt awaits on Saturday.
