Lucinda Brand won the cyclo-cross World Cup competition in Tabor, Czech Republic on Sunday.

Brand crossed the line solo after six laps for world champion Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado.

Denise Betsema finished third.

Brand took the lead at the start of the third round and hit a hole with Alvarado after a few small mistakes by the Rotterdam player.

The 31-year-old cyclist from Telenet-Baloise Lions was steadily further ahead and was 24 seconds ahead of Alvarado at the finish.

The Hungarian Kata Blanka Vas came in the final round with Annemarie Worst and Betsema and came fourth.

Worst, last year's winner in Tabor, crossed the finish line fifth.

At the start there was a big crash in which Shirin van Anrooij and the Italian Sara Casasola had to give up injured.

The first reports are that Anrooij would have broken her arm.

The cyclo-cross World Cup has been thinned out due to the corona virus and currently consists of five competitions.

After Tabor, Namur (December 20), Dendermonde (December 27), Hulst (January 3) and Overijse (January 24) follow.
