Max Verstappen set the sixth fastest time on Friday during the first free practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were by far the fastest on the Bahrain International Circuit.

Verstappen came to a fastest time of 1.30.294 on the soft tire.

Hamilton (1.29.033) and Bottas (1.29.482) were on the medium band and were the only ones to stay under a minute and a half.

Behind the Mercedes were also Sergio Pérez, Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly slightly faster than Verstappen, who entered a little earlier due to some damage to his car after a spin.

The first results in Bahrain say little yet, as conditions will be different later this weekend.

The third free practice, qualifying and the race will be held at a later date, which means that the race will take place under artificial light and under considerably lower temperatures.

Moreover, there is a chance that it will rain later this weekend.

During the first free practice the sky was already threatening, but it remained dry except for a few drops.

The second free practice starts on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by the third practice (12 noon) and the qualification (3 p.m.) on Saturday.

The Bahrain Grand Prix is on Sunday at 3.10 p.m.
