A few months ago, Mark S. made a comprehensive confession.

In the largest German doping trial for years, the doctor admitted that he had been coaching athletes on doping to a large extent since 2012.

In a statement read out by his lawyers, the Erfurt resident admitted that from that year on, he had mainly looked after winter sports enthusiasts and cyclists.

In the first two weeks of the trial, two helpers from Mark S. - the nurse Diana S. and the paramedic Sven M. - testified and confirmed the results of the investigation in the so-called Aderletting operation.

The Erfurt doctor had asked them to take blood from athletes at various locations and give them to them.

The physician himself confirmed this at the beginning of the trial.

A total of 26 trial days were scheduled and a verdict is expected this year.

As part of a raid in February 2019, Mark S. also found special refrigerators in which he had frozen the athletes' blood.

20 months after the action at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld, Austria, the defendant surprised with a proposal during the trial before the Munich Regional Court.

What you need to know about vaccine for the masses

It is one of the means that the EU has high hopes for.

The effectiveness of the vaccine from Astra Zeneca is less than that of the competition, but it still has a decisive advantage over the mRNA vaccines.

Mark S. heard that bottlenecks are expected in the storage of a future corona vaccine in special refrigerators.

He therefore wanted to help as a doctor.

He estimates that between 7,500 and 10,500 samples of a vaccine could be stored per refrigerator, for example in planned vaccination stations.

He would like the drawn-in freezers to be used in his home town of Thuringia.

Judge Marion Tischler said they would endeavor to have the two refrigerators released for such purposes.

S. reports bad conditions in the prison

S. also used his appearance in court to report what he saw as the dire conditions in the Stadelheim correctional facility.

The Thuringian has been in custody there since the beginning of 2019.

At a hearing at the Munich II regional court on Friday, he told of several incidents in the prison that, as a doctor, he could not understand.

"It may be that vaccines will arrive before Christmas"

The federal and state governments have agreed to tighten the corona measures in December and relax them over Christmas.

For example, at the beginning of his imprisonment, he was locked in a six-man cell in the infirmary for six weeks, for no reason in his opinion.

He had seen a man suffering from hepatitis C slit his forearms and only received help after more than half an hour.

He himself then wiped up the pools of blood with towels and cold water because he was not allowed any cleaning agents or disinfectants.
