It's probably 2020 in a nutshell that Mike Tyson is making a comeback, I guess.

The year that never ceases to amaze.

It's been 15 years since a resigned Tyson sat huddled in the corner of Washington and shook his head.

He gave up between rounds six and seven against the Irishman Kevin McBride, a boxer he should have run over.

He was just a remnant of the ruthless knockout machine that terrified the heavyweight for years and for a while was considered "The Baddest Man on the Planet".

- I do not have it in me anymore.

I'm boxing just to pay the bills.

I'm not an animal anymore, the American said when he was interviewed in the ring immediately afterwards.

"The gods of war have awakened me again"

Tyson's life has been surrounded by a long line of controversy and in recent years he has distanced himself from the person he was during his active career.

A comeback has been totally ruled out because he did not want to arouse the ego and the madness of greatness that existed in "the old Tyson".

As recently as February this year, he sat in his own podcast with tears in his throat and told that he was a changed person.

- I do not want to let go of the person I once was because then the whole hell breaks loose, he said.

But now we stand here anyway.

Just hours away from the giant's return.

- The gods of war have awakened me again.

A comeback that aroused mixed feelings among the fans.

Some are lyrical, others critical.

Many worried, even more curious.

I do not know if it is possible to understand Mike Tyson.

His unique life journey has been like a rampant roller coaster with incredible peaks and even deeper valleys.

Genius and madness in one.

On the one hand: A phenomenon that has reached historic heights in the boxing ring.

For a while he was considered an unstoppable primordial force.

A monster.

On the other hand: The man of scandals inside and outside the ring.

A sex offender who was sentenced to six years in prison for rape and spent about three years behind bars between 1992 and 1995. That could have been some of his best years in his career.

Even today he denies his guilt.

Over the years, "Iron Mike" has repeatedly made fun of his sometimes disgusting behavior.

Against journalists, opponents and women.

At the same time, the 54-year-old is an extreme emotional person who is open with his shortcomings and reflects on his slips in life.

That's why many have chosen to embrace Tyson again - despite his rape conviction.

D'Amato became the father figure that Tyson missed

Maybe boxing coach Cus D'Amato is the key to understanding Tyson.

D'Amato became the father figure that Tyson always missed and adopted the teenager when his mother passed away.

Taught him discipline and gave him structure.

Built up his confidence.

Took him away from the ghetto in Brownsville, New York, where Tyson had a tangled upbringing, among other things, he was bullied and sexually exploited as a child.

Violence, drugs and crime followed.

By the age of 13, he had already been arrested 38 times, according to the autobiography "Undisputed Truth".

D'Amato never got to see his adept win the world heavyweight belt, which was his big dream.

He died a year before Tyson wrote history as a 20-year-old in 1986. Suddenly, Tyson was one of America's most famous athletes, but without D'Amato as a compass, he felt lost.

After that, most things went wrong.

It is said to earn SEK 100 million

When Tyson now makes a comeback, he seems to be a seemingly transformed human being.

He says that returning to the ring is not about himself.

Although, according to unconfirmed information, he is said to earn around SEK 100 million for this weekend's match, he says he wants to give most of it to grassroots organizations in poor areas.

When you think you called in Mike Tyson, it turns out that you were completely wrong.

The boxer who never ceases to surprise.
