Up to 4,000 spectators will be able to watch live sporting events in the areas of the United Kingdom considered lower risk once the current confinement imposed in England ends, on December 2, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday.
The Conservative leader made a virtual statement to the Commons from his official Downing Street residence, where he is isolated after having been in contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.
In his appearance, Johnson confirmed the
partial return of fans to sports stadiums
after the current near-total lockdown, after which the country will return to a three-tier system of selective restrictions.
In this way, in the areas of the country considered "very high risk" -level of restriction 3- the presence of spectators will continue to be prohibited in sports venues, regardless of whether they are exterior or interior.
In areas classified as "high risk" -the level of restriction 2-, up
to 2,000 fans
or 50 percent of the stadium capacity (whichever is less)
may gather
from next week and a maximum of up to 4,000 (or 50% of capacity) in lower-risk areas.
Elite sports will continue to be played in spaces closed to the public during the current lockdown, imposed on November 5.
