Without much surprise, Evgeny Ustyugov decided to appeal his suspension for doping.

This was inflicted on him by the CAS in October and canceled all his results between 2010 and 2014, jeopardizing his Olympic titles.

If the appeal is rejected, Martin Fourcade could thus recover a sixth Olympic gold medal on the mass-start in Vancouver.

"Evgeny Ustyugov appealed against the decision of the anti-doping chamber of the CAS," Alexei Panich told the Ria Novosti news agency, adding that he did not know the date of the examination of the appeal.

Ustyugov was suspended by the CAS anti-doping chamber following the analysis of his biological passport between 2010 and 2014, which revealed the use of "a prohibited substance or method".

Already a lost gold medal

Ustyugov, 35, risks losing two medals acquired at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver (gold in the mass start and bronze in the relay) and two at the 2011 Worlds in Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia (silver in the mass start and in the relay).

This is the second sanction of the Russian biathlete, sentenced in February in a first case for doping with oxandrolone (a steroid), already causing him to lose a gold medal obtained in relay at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
