There are no fans in the French stadiums before next January

Fans will not be allowed to attend matches in French stadiums before next January, according to what the Elysee announced today, indicating that at that time there will also be strict restrictions on numbers depending on the size of the stadium.

French President Emmanuel Macron told sports officials during a closed-circuit video call that the return of fans "is not possible in December", given the recent rise in Covid-19 infections in the country, which prompted the authorities to announce a new partial closure last month.

But Macron's office pointed out that the latter said that emerging clubs may be allowed to reopen their doors in December in the event that the number of daily infections with the new Corona virus continues to decrease, as long as there are strengthened measures taken to avoid the risk of infection, especially in closed spaces.

The French president also revealed a plan worth 100 million euros for the next year to finance a "sports card" that encourages young people to engage in sports activities, by paying club subscriptions or purchasing equipment, for example.

The money could be a lifeline for amateur clubs in particular, which have been hit by the health crisis.

Government officials expressed their hope that the closure restrictions would be eased from next month in the event of the pandemic receding, especially for hospitals that deal with large numbers of patients in intensive care.
