  • Emmanuel Macron and Jean Castex listened at length to the complaints of the sports world.

  • The President of the Republic has sanctuarized an aid fund of 110 million euros for professional cubs.

  • Regarding amateur sport, minors will be able to return to clubs during the month of December.

A meeting that did good for the ego and the wallets.

If the professional, economic and associative actors of the sports world complained since the spring of a lack of consideration of their activity, they got their money for Tuesday during a videoconference which mobilized the entire state apparatus for almost three hours.

Emmanuel Macron, Jean Castex, Bruno Lemaire, Jean-Michel Blanquer and Roxana Maracineanu, just that, to listen to the grievances of the sports world as a whole, and announce some promises in the form of first aid economic aid.

"The president strongly recalled the place of sport in French society"

This fairly new expression of interest at the top of the state has produced the desired “wow” effect.

“It was an important meeting during which the President of the Republic strongly recalled the importance of sport in French society.

From this point of view, it received a very satisfied welcome from all the players present ”, recognizes Philippe Diallo, president of Cosmos.

Among them, representatives of the professional world, such as Tony Parker for basketball or Bernard Laporte for rugby, representatives of the amateur world, but also of the leisure sport and sports economy sector.

Virgile Caillet, Director General of Union Sport et Cycle, the leading organization in the commercial sector (wholesale sports halls) also wanted to underline "the exceptional listening of the Head of State, who recalled, it was his conclusion, that sport was essential for the nation ”.

🗣 "The state is really playing along, they really want to help the world of sport."

For the pros, 110 million to compensate for the closed doors

Expected on strong commitments, Emmanuel Macron validated the establishment of the compensation fund knitted by his Ministry of Sports to help professional clubs to cope with financial losses linked to the lack of ticketing revenue since the recovery.

Some 110 million euros, to be distributed according to each other's situations, which will also have to agree.

While the indoor sports most affected by the second confinement (volleyball, hand, basketball) estimated their needs at 40 million euros in a joint press release, Bernard Laporte announced 34 million holes in the boxes on France Inter a few hours before the meeting.

"The mechanism will take into account the rate of dependence on the ticket office and the impact on known losses," said

Roxana Maracineanu

to

20 minutes, the

senior coordinator of this meeting.

"Depending on that, there will be a ceiling, and we will be very careful to ensure that there is equity, that the small sports with the least publicity such as volleyball, basketball or handball, are also concerned by the measure ”.

The Minister for Sports also intends to ensure that women's sport is not forgotten in the case.

“Compared to its economic model, women's sport suffers more than others from the crisis, deplores Nodjialem Myaro, invited to the videoconference for her role as patron of the Women's Handball League.

I cannot guarantee that this aid plan will be enough, but even if it is small amounts, for some clubs, it can make all the difference ”.

The end of the administrative gauge to repopulate the stadiums

“We cannot claim to be compensated in full for everything,” said Patrick Wolff, president of the national association of professional sports leagues, also invited.

The good news is that clubs are now seen as an economic sector in their own right, and as such, it enjoys the same type of support ”.

While it will not be retroactive, the exemption from employer charges has thus been enacted as long as the situation lasts (at least for October-November, therefore), as have recapitalization mechanisms which will allow clubs not to be tied up on the short term to the reimbursement of the many PGE subscribed within the professional clubs.

To finish at the high level, the State also opened the door to the end of the administrative gauges of 1,000 or 5,000 people in the stadiums and in the halls.

It will not be before 2021, given the health situation, but the track of a spectator every 4 m2 has been advanced, as has the filling of a percentage gauge according to the number of overall places.

Return of minors to clubs before the end of December

Amateur sport, also on the brink with an overall decline of 20% of licensees on resumption according to a vast survey conducted by the CNOSF, i.e. 260 million euros in lost earnings, can see the end of the tunnel before the end of the year.

Emmanuel Macron confirmed his desire to see the associations welcome minors again in December depending on health developments, the idea being to organize a reception during school holidays, following a protocol of non-mixing of children.

In addition to immediate economic support that the ministry figures at more than 30 million euros "so as not to end up without educators to put children in front of the recovery", a sport pass in the amount of 100 million will be launched in 2021 to renew the link between young people and sports.

Clearly, offer a discount on licenses in order to overload the workforce and not to drop out of the youth, who will have lived several months of forced sedentary lifestyle, "a real danger for the long-term health of the next generation" recalled Michel Cymès, invited to the meeting.

Finally, the private sector, which organizes a good part of the practice among adults has obtained the visibility and the readability that it demanded, even if it will also be necessary to wait until 2021 to reopen.

"Play a role of social shock absorber after the crisis"

"The positive point is that we are identified by the public authorities as an important sector, and that there is a real desire to help companies which were dynamic before the crisis", rejoices Virgile Caillet.

Roxana Maracineanu, sometimes accused of not knowing how to defend her fat in the various arbitrations, can breathe a little: “This meeting gave the president to see the full scope of the sporting world.

Sport is the place where we let go of the mask and where we touch each other, but we can also present it as a solution so that, after the crisis, it can play its role of social shock absorber ”.
