The match had ended 1-1 after full time and the extra time was goalless before the penalty kick started at Rajko Mitic Stadium.

All penalties went in when it was time for Stefan Mitrovic to shoot Serbia's fifth and final penalty.

He had to put it on to keep Serbia in the drama.

He shot it hard low to the right but Marshall went a little ahead and boxed the ball away and fixed Scotland's advancement to a major championship - the first since the 1998 World Cup in France.

"No Scotland, no party"

The teammates came rushing from the center circle in full career and jumped on Marshall who at first did not understand that the penalty drama was over.

The players sang and danced like drunks in the late hour.

"No Scotland, no party" echoed across the arena.

The Serbs protested to the referee and wanted to change the punishment because they thought Marshall had left too early.

The sequence was not reviewed and the Serbs' protest was not heard.
