Arantxa Rus was eliminated on Thursday at the indoor tournament in Linz.

The South Holland lost in the second round in three sets to fifth seeded Veronika Kudermetova.

The 29-year-old Russian started her game dramatically on the Austrian hard court and lost her first service, after which Kudermetova (WTA-46) took the first set: 4-6.

The South Holland, the number 72 in the world, looked like reborn in the second set (6-1), but was already broken in the fourth game in the third set and could not avert a defeat: 3-6.

Rus, who is on the rise in the world ranking this year, is still waiting for her first tournament victory this year in singles due to her defeat in Linz.

She won her last tournament in November last year, in Orlando, USA.

In the French Andrézieux-Bouthéon she reached the final at the beginning of this year, but in that she lost to the Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure.

For Rus, the tournament in Linz is not quite over yet.

She is still active in doubles with her partner Tamara Zidansek.

Remarkably, the two faced each other on Tuesday in the first round of singles, which Rus won in two sets (6-4, 6-4).

Kiki Bertens does not participate in the indoor tournament in Linz.

The Westlandse put an end to her season in October after her elimination at Roland Garros and recently had surgery for an Achilles tendon injury.

The rehabilitation takes several months, which means that she has to pass the Australian Open in January, among other things.
