Yesterday, the Swedish national basketball team gathered in Heraklion in Crete to step into the bubble where Saturday's European Championship qualifier against Israel is played.

But four key players were missing: WNBA player Amanda Zahui, Regan Magarity, Louice Halvarsson and team captain Kalis Loyd.

Zahui has tested positive for covid-19.

Magarity and Halvarsson have cold symptoms, but both have tested negative.

Loyd did not want to take two flights

Loyd, who worked in healthcare this spring, has refused for fear of becoming infected.

She would have had to change planes twice to get from the Canary Islands to Crete and considers it a risky journey.

- I understand that we have to find a weekday in everything but the timing is bad and it is not worth risking the players' health, says Kalis Loyd to SVT Sport.

The national team management still hopes that the first three will be able to join the squad later.

However, the chance that Zahui will come into play is very small.

Reserves Sofia Hägg and Emma Johansson have been called in.

The European Championship qualifiers are broadcast on SVT1 12.55-14.55 on Saturday.
