Celta Vigo coach dismissed due to negative results

Celta Vigo announced Monday the sacking of coach Oscar Garcia due to the negative results of the seventeenth-placed Spanish soccer league.

"Oscar Garcia and his coaching staff will not continue to lead the Celta Vigo team," the club said in a statement.

Garcia took charge of Celta Vigo in November last year when he was occupying one of the second-division spots, a day after Fran Escriba was sacked.

Garcia managed to lead Celta Vigo to stay in the Premier League, but his team's poor start to this season precipitated his dismissal.

Celta Vigo won once in its first nine games in the league this season, against four draws and defeats, as it ranks seventeenth, one point ahead of the places leading to the second division.

Celta Figo thanked his coach Garcia for his work and wished him "the best in the future, both personally and professionally," without indicating the name of his successor.
