Diego Maradona is recovering from a successful brain surgery.

Doctors are optimistic about the legendary Argentine footballer's recovery.

According to his neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, the surgery did not cause complications.

“Diego was joking and I am very happy to see him like that,” Sky Sports quoted Luque as saying.

The doctor added that Diego will be under the supervision of specialists for three days, although nothing threatens his life.

This information was confirmed by the lawyer Matthias Morla, representing the interests of Maradona, who currently holds the post of head coach of the Gimnasia and Esgrima club.

“The last medical report was excellent.

Let's be strong and then we'll get through it, ”added Morla.

The hospitalization of Maradona became a few days earlier.

Contrary to suspicions, she was not associated with COVID-19, although some time ago, the specialist was really forced to self-isolate after one of his guards showed signs of the virus.

During the examination, the Argentinean was diagnosed with anemia and dehydration, and a subdural hematoma, a blood clot most often formed as a result of trauma, was found in the brain.

Then it was decided to transfer the ex-footballer to Buenos Aires and conduct an operation.

On the evening of November 4, it became known that the surgical intervention that lasted 80 minutes was successful.

Luque stressed that at the moment it is difficult to predict how the situation will develop.

“Now he is in the postoperative period, and it is difficult to assess his attitude.

Nevertheless, when we removed the drain tube today, he laughed, looked at me, held my hand and, at first impression, was in a good mood, but it is difficult to assess.

Together with the doctors, we will decide when to do the CT scan.

Everything will depend on the recovery process, ”said the neurosurgeon.

Earlier it was reported that the 1986 world champion will undergo rehabilitation in Venezuela or Cuba, but Morla denied these rumors.

According to him, the specialist does not intend to leave his team and will remain at home.

Sky Sports News Latin America expert Tim Vickery said the Argentine could be discharged in a week, and start work a month later.

At the same time, he added that everything will depend on rehabilitation.

“Obviously, given the anamnesis, there were fears that his body would not survive the operation well.

Therefore, now we can be glad that it was successful.

However, we remain with some concern to see how his body will recover from this 80-minute procedure, ”Vickery said.
