Rafael Nadal reached the milestone after defeating compatriot Feliciano López (4-6, 7-6, 6-4) in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Nadal, who took his first victory on the ATP Tour in April 2002, thus became the fourth male player in history to reach the milestone.

The American Jimmy Connors (1,274 victories), the Swiss Roger Federer (1,242) and the Czech Ivan Lendl (1,068) have already crossed the 1,000 limit.

- It's a privilege to play at the age of 34 - but it's not just my merit, it's the whole team and my family.

For Nadal, the Australian Jordan Thompson is now waiting in the third round of the Paris Masters.
